Bethesda Shares Its New Plans for Fallout and The Elder Scrolls
Bethesda Game Studios has outlined its future plans for Fallout and The Elder Scrolls, confirming Fallout 5, The Elder Scrolls VI, and more.

Bethesda Game Studios has bundled its future plans for Fallout and The Elder Scrolls into a single announcement. The studio revealed that Fallout 5 is in pre-production, development on The Elder Scrolls VI is continuing, and remakes are also in the works for Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.
The path is clear for Fallout 5, with new projects lined up
The clearest message in the announcement came from the Fallout 5 front. The game is currently in pre-production and is being developed on Creation Engine 3. Bethesda also said it is using this new technology not just for a single project, but as a shared foundation for multiple games.

The studio also confirmed that it is working with Obsidian Entertainment on the next mainline Fallout game. That detail became one of the most concrete takeaways about the series’ future. In addition, Bethesda said that more than one Fallout project is actively in development beyond Fallout 5, though it did not specify which ones.
One of the most notable details on the Fallout side was the plan for older games. Bethesda confirmed that remakes for Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are in development. No release date was given. Even so, the fact that official work is underway on these two titles stood out as an important move that keeps interest in the series’ past alive.
Bethesda also shared a new content plan for Fallout 76. The game continues to bring in millions of players in Appalachia and has received around 70 free updates. Bethesda announced that a major Fallout 76 expansion is planned for next year, called Raven Rock, and that it will serve as a prequel story to Fallout 3.
Taken together, the picture shows the series moving forward with a broad plan that spans different eras rather than focusing on a single release. As also seen in the file titled Why Do AAA Games Keep Hitting the Same Wall?, major franchises are now shaped not only by new entries, but also by side projects and long-term support.
The Elder Scrolls VI is still the main focus
Another major point in Bethesda’s announcement was The Elder Scrolls VI. The studio said development is ongoing and that most of the team is currently working on the project. It also emphasized that the game is the “main development focus.”
So far, the game’s full title, release window, or setting have not been revealed. Even so, Bethesda said the game is being developed every day and that the team is pleased with the results so far. The message was short but clear: the wait continues, but the project is not on the back burner.

The studio also announced a closer cross-team structure for the The Elder Scrolls brand. Under this setup, ZeniMax Online Studios will continue working on The Elder Scrolls Online while also collaborating more closely with Bethesda Game Studios on the broader The Elder Scrolls franchise. The move is meant to keep the different branches of the series moving more cohesively under one roof.
Creation Engine 3 was also highlighted in this section of Bethesda’s announcement. The studio confirmed that both The Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5 are being developed on this shared technology. Bethesda said the setup makes it possible to support multiple projects at once while using new tools and systems. In other words, this was not just a content plan, but a technical infrastructure plan as well.
On the The Elder Scrolls Online side, Bethesda noted that Season One: Return of the Thieves Guild has recently launched and that the team has other plans for the future as well. The studio kept this detail brief, but it clearly showed that activity around the franchise will not be limited to the mainline games.
The Fallout universe is moving on old and new fronts at the same time
Bethesda’s latest announcement made it clear that it is trying to expand the Fallout universe from several angles at once. Fallout 5 is moving through pre-production on one front. Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas remakes are being prepared on another. Fallout 76 is awaiting its next expansion. And Fallout Shelter is also getting new Seasons plans.
The company also announced another project tied to Fallout Shelter. In collaboration with Amazon Studios and Kilter Films, Bethesda is working on an unscripted Fallout Shelter television project. In addition, the company celebrated 10 Emmy nominations for Fallout Season 2 and said production on Season 3 has begun. This added another layer outside the games themselves, but one that still reflects the scale of the brand.
Alongside all of that, Bethesda said it will not hold a traditional Fallout Day broadcast this year. However, it announced that a live event is planned in Washington, D.C. for Fallout’s 30th anniversary in 2027. That now stands as a long-term marker on the series’ calendar.
Bethesda’s announcement provided one of the broadest looks yet at the future of both Fallout and The Elder Scrolls. No single game reveal was made, but the studio made it clear which projects it will be focusing on over the coming years. It did not give exact dates, but it did define the direction.
