The First Verdicts Are Becoming Clear in Steam Next Fest Demos
Steam Next Fest demos are already separating the standouts from the misfires, with each game showing a very different kind of first impression.

Steam Next Fest demos make it immediately clear just how differently games can turn out within the same event. Some titles build a solid structure from the first minute, while others stay scattered despite having good ideas.
Daumier: Lila & Ghost shows the gap between idea and execution
Daumier: Lila & Ghost presents a co-op setup that sounds intriguing on paper. Its two-player puzzle structure is built around communication and solving problems together. But the first impression is that this concept can’t quite carry the game’s backbone.
The puzzles throughout the demo do sometimes force players to think together in a meaningful way, but in most sections progress comes from one player finding the solution while the other waits. That weakens the sense of partnership. In particular, the rough and clumsy-feeling physical interactions make the already shaky puzzle flow even harder to enjoy.
The story side suffers from the same issue. The sense is that the narration is scattered, the connections between sections aren’t established well enough, and motivation remains low. The plague-ridden medieval city, the strange garden section, and the bloody finale may each stand out individually, but they don’t form a coherent whole. The text highlights this disconnect especially clearly.
The audio and presentation are in a similar state. Animations feel weak, subtitles contain errors, and the voice work is tonally uneven. Even so, the game does seem to have an interesting core idea. The problem isn’t the concept itself, but the design trying to support it. There’s an intriguing starting point here, but the demo can’t turn it into a clear game.
RAID VR squeezes a solid loop into tight spaces
RAID VR looks more balanced. The demo stands out as one of the strongest builds tried during Steam Next Fest. The core premise is clear: you work in space like a kind of customs officer, scanning ships and boarding them when you detect illegal cargo.
At first glance, the core loop is understandable, fast, and functional. The control panel feels intuitive, the scanning system is in the right place, and the game tries to turn everything into a tangible physical action. The colorful cel-shaded visual style fits the structure well. Sound design also supports the gameplay and helps the overall experience come together. This is the kind of demo that gives you a strong sense of itself very quickly, and it easily fits among the 10 games with demos and first impressions.
