Steam’s New Game Wave Shows No Signs of Slowing Down
Steam’s release pipeline has reached a striking pace, with 720 new games arriving in a single week and indie titles taking center stage.

New game releases on Steam have reached a remarkable intensity in recent days. The platform saw 720 new games launch in a single week. That figure marked the highest level ever reached in one week. During the same period, indie projects and Early Access releases also became more prominent on the storefront.
A record week of releases on Steam
Weekly data showed that 720 new games arrived on Steam between August 24 and 30, 2026. That works out to an average of 102.9 games per day, or roughly 4.3 new releases per hour. Information that about 12,000 games had launched on Steam in the first half of the year also suggests that this flow was not limited to a single week.

The issue is not only the raw number, either. Of the 720 games released that week, 530 had between 0 and 9 user reviews. The number of games that reached more than 10 reviews was 190. The number of games with 50 or more reviews was 95, those with 100 or more reviews was 62, and just 10 games surpassed 1,000 reviews. This clearly highlights the gap between release volume and early attention.
A few names stood out amid the crowded week. Wardogs was by far one of the most talked-about launches. Withering Realms, Nighthawks, and Cat Me If You Can were also among the titles drawing attention on Steam. Ex Sanguis, Shroom and Gloom, Emissary, Rushcremental, Buitopia DVD, The Merlies, Dungeon Automata, Corner Perk, and Sonucido: Dreams of the Gray God were also part of this wave.
Wardogs and Withering Realms drew attention
Wardogs reached a huge audience with its Early Access release on Steam. The game crossed the 400,000 concurrent players mark. The same reports noted that it launched on September 10, ran into problems due to server congestion, and briefly saw its user score drop. Even so, the game later recovered and returned to a “mostly positive” rating of 78. It was also reported to have sold 1.25 million copies in 24 hours.
