The Night’s Most Talked-About Games at Gamescom ONL
Gamescom Opening Night Live delivered multiple major reveals, new trailers, release windows and first looks at some of the night’s most talked-about games.

Gamescom Opening Night Live wasn’t just about a single major announcement; several games took the stage with new trailers, some received release windows, and others were shown for the first time. Among the most eye-catching names were The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, Songs of the Past, Final Fantasy VII Revelation, METRO 2039, Valor Mortis, Genigods: Nezha, Tides of Annihilation, and ETRE. The common thread of the event was clear: long-awaited projects shared the spotlight with brand-new reveals.
The Witcher 3 returned to the stage with two separate announcements

CD Projekt Red made two separate announcements for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The first was Songs of the Past. This expansion will launch in 2027 and will tell a new story for Geralt. The developer team also made it clear that this would be Geralt’s final adventure. The trailer highlighted the first hints of the story and a new chain weapon that Geralt will use.
That same night, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered was also announced. This version will arrive with visual and technical improvements and will be offered as a free upgrade for existing owners. Alongside upgraded visuals, performance, gameplay, movement systems, sign effects, monster behavior, the skill tree structure, photo mode, and new finishing animations are also being updated. The game is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. A native version for Nintendo Switch 2 is also on the way. The older expansion packs, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, will now also be accessible at no extra cost.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation finally got a release window
Square Enix showed a new trailer for Final Fantasy VII Revelation during Gamescom Opening Night Live, bringing the final chapter of the remake trilogy back into the spotlight. The release window was also announced: the game will launch in spring 2027.
The target platforms for the new release are now clear as well. Final Fantasy VII Revelation will be available on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It will also be accessible via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Xbox on PC. The trailer once again underscored the scale of the final installment, while it was also noted that the option to wishlist the game is available rather than pre-order it.
METRO 2039 and Silent Hill: Townfall also stood out that same night
The next Metro game, METRO 2039, was shown with an in-engine trailer titled “Renegade.” The trailer offered a closer look at The Stranger, the main character with a new voice, and his past and motivations. It also highlighted infiltration scenes set in occupied Moscow, brutal methods, and the series’ familiar bleak atmosphere. The game will launch in February 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Epic Games Store.
Silent Hill: Townfall was also among the titles whose details became clear that night. The cast was introduced and the release date was set for 24 September 2026. It was shared that the game will retain its horror focus, proceed from a first-person perspective, and place puzzle-solving at its core.

Valor Mortis, Genigods: Nezha, and ETRE made their first appearance
Valor Mortis joined the night with a new story trailer. In One More Level’s first-person Soulslike, the rebel leader known as The Shrike was revealed for the first time. The trailer centers on the struggle against the Napoleonic Empire and the occupied territories of Eastern Europe. Characters such as William Dowsett, James Stewart, and Lucjan Skawiński also appear in the game. The release date was announced as 13 October 2026.
Genigods: Nezha made its world premiere. Described as a single-player, fast-paced action RPG, the game reimagines ancient Chinese creation mythology. At its center is the Spirit Pearl. The player embarks on a journey in which this essence, created by Nüwa, is reborn as Nezha. It was also announced that the game is coming to PS5, Xbox, and PC. A demo can be played at the official platform booths on the show floor.
ETRE was another new reveal. Developed by Studio Lifeforms, this sci-fi metroidvania was introduced as a single-player third-person action-adventure. The game’s visual identity is inspired by European science fiction comics from the 1970s and 1980s. The story takes place on Orbis, a planet-scale artificial mind. Players take on the role of Xyle and move through interconnected labyrinths while searching for the lost love Atel, solving spatial puzzles, and engaging in fluid combat.
Tides of Annihilation rounded out one of the night’s surprises
Tides of Annihilation took the stage with the “Beneath the Veil” trailer. New footage was shown for the Arthurian legend-inspired action RPG, and a change in the lead role was confirmed. The trailer opened a new window into the game’s narrative side, while its release date is still unannounced.
Throughout Gamescom Opening Night Live, the big takeaway was not one single massive reveal, but a steady stream of strong trailers. The Witcher 3 got both an expansion and a remaster announcement, Final Fantasy VII Revelation received a release window, METRO 2039 and Silent Hill: Townfall locked in their dates, and new projects were shown for the first time. That is exactly why the night brought long-awaited games and new names together in one frame.
