Xbox has announced the new games and content coming during the week of August 17-21. The lineup includes both major expansions and indie releases. With two separate content lists confirming the same week, the standout games have also become clear.
The week's standout releases
According to the list shared by Xbox, two major items stand out on August 20. The first is the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Cost of Hope DLC from GSC Game World. This expansion is said to launch a new journey of exploration into the Zone and offer dozens of hours of gameplay. The story centers on a fragile peace that has been broken, forcing the player to choose sides in a world full of intrigue and half-truths.
The other title arriving that same day is Mortal Shell II. Published by Playstack, the game is described as a standalone sequel to the first title. It emphasizes a faster and more punishing combat system, deeper weapon design, and broader upgrade options. It is also said to focus on free exploration in a compact open world. Those who purchase the Deluxe edition will also get up to 72 hours of early access starting August 17.

Three different releases arriving on August 18
Another busy day of the week is August 18. Backyard Baseball is coming to Xbox on this date, and the game is being presented as a modern reimagining. It features 11 remastered stadiums, 24 original teams, 6 different game modes, and a roster of 30 beloved Backyard characters. The game is also optimized for Xbox Series X|S, supports Smart Delivery, and includes Xbox Play Anywhere features.
On the same date, The Sinking City 2 also appears on the list. Frogwares' game is described as a third-person survival horror set in 1920s Arkham. Careful resource management, tense progression, and brief moments of refuge are highlighted. Inventory tracking, disturbing puzzles, and a system for backtracking through newly opened shortcuts to gather supplies are also specifically emphasized. The game is optimized for Xbox Series X|S.
